MACHINE
OPERATORS
1. Make sure safety guards are in place
before operating any machine.
2. Before starting work, inspect the
machine for anything that may be out of order, if defects are found,
report them to your supvervisor. Be sure no wrench or key is left in
a chuck or that any other material remains in the machine wich might
cause an accident.
3. Use chip guards when necessary to
protect your fellow workers and yourself from flying
chips.
4. Keep your machine clean, check oil
levels and lubrication. Do not clean or oil machine while it is
running. Keep the floor clean around machine. Use oil absorbing
compounds to absorb any oil on floor. Promptly report all oil leaks
or lack of maintenance to your foreman.
5. Do not stop a machine with your
hand, use the brake.
6. On belt driven machinery, shifting
should not be done by hand. Use appliances provided for this
purpose.
7. Never wear gloves, finger rings,
long neckties, long sleeves, loose clothing or wrist watches while
operating machines.
8. When drilling, make sure work is
securely fastened down. Do not try to hold work with your
hand.
9. After using tools, jigs or fixtures,
return them to their proper place. When left lying on the floor,
they are a tripping hazard and also may get damaged.
10. Never attempt to place guards on a
machine while it is in operation.
11. Be sure that work is safely piled
at your machine, so that it will not fall.
12. When putting work in and taking
work out of grinding machines, be sure the wheel is backed away so
as to prevent getting your hands caught between the wheel and the
work.
13. Do not leave machines while they
are running.
14. Only equipment that is OSHA
approved and that has all required guards should be purchased and
used in the work place. |
