CHAINS, ROPES, CABLES AND
HOISTS
1. Be sure chains, ropes and hooks are
in good condition before using. Report all questionable cases to
your foreman.
2. Only nylon slings or equivalent
should be used.
3. Always use a hoist with sufficient
capacity to handle
4. Be careful to select the proper
chains, nylon slings or rope for the job. Guarding must be provided
on the rear swing of cranes and those areas where the public is
exposed to the boom or load falling.
5. Do not walk or stand under crane
loads. Push suspended loads. Do not pull them toward you. Do not
swing any load over any employee.
6. Do not take chances.
7. Do not work under any object
supported from above, as from a crane, thereby depending on slings
or chains for your safety. Always insure your safety by blocking up
under the object from the floor.
8. Avoid cutting ropes or slings by
padding sharp corners of objects being lifted.
9. Never jerk, twist or knot a chian or
wire rope.
10. Do not lift or pull a load with the
tip of a hook.
11. Only authorized lifting devices
that are inspected are to be used (homemade devices are not
authorized).
12. All gas and diesel powered hoisting
equipment should have a fully charged fire extinguisher on the
equipment, or adjacent to the hoist.
13. Only one person should be
designated to give signals to the hoist operator. Standard hand
signals should be used and be posted on the side of the hoisting
equipment.
14. No part of the hoist, boom truck,
crane or load should be permitted to come closer than 10 feet to any
power line. It should be asumed that every electrical line is
energized.
15. Equipment should not be greased or
oiled when the equipment is
rigged. |
