HAZARDOUS
WASTE
In 1976, Congress passed the Resource
Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) which directed the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to develop and implement a
program to protect human health and the environment from improper
hazardous waste management practices. Master Pumps & Equipment
Corporation and its employees wish to adhere to all EPA regulations
and unite themselves with the EPA and other governmental agencies in
the attempt to safeguard the environment against hazardous wastes
and protect our employees.
WHAT ARE HAZARDOUS
WASTES?
Any form of material that could cause
injury or death or damage or pollute land, air or water. All of
these wastes are regulated by federal and state health and
environmental safety law. Hazardous wastes are normally classified
into four groups:
1. Ignitable - Easily combustible or
flammable substances. 2. Corrosive - Substances that dissolve
metals and other materials or burn the skin. 3. Reactive Wastes -
Unstable, volatile substances that react rapidly with water and
other materials. 4. Toxic Wastes - Poisons, heavy metals and
pesticides.
Master Pumps is classified as a small
quantity "conditionally exempt", generator. Small quantity
generators produce less than 220 pounds of hazardous waste per
calendar month. |
