REAR END
COLLISION:
1. Following too closely. 2. Driving
too fast for conditions.
It is a driver's responsibility to
allow sufficient distance between his or her vehicle and a vehicle
ahead in order to avoid this type of collision. Darkness, fog, rain,
snow, sleet or glare cause reduced visibility. The burden of
responsibility is placed on the driver. The driver should operate
his or her vehicle whithin the limits of his or her ability to see
ahead.
1. Was the driver maintaining a safe
following distance, or at least one car length for every 10 miles
per hour of travel? This distance should be doubled at night and
doubled again in wet weather. 2. Was the driver keeping his or
her eyes and mind ahead of the car ahead? 3. Did the driver
approach the green traffic light cautiously, expecting the driver
ahead to stop suddenly on the signal change. 4. Did the driver
operate his vehicle correctly so as to keep from
skidding? 5. Did the Driver put away his cell phone to prevent talking, texting or other communication on his device while the vehicle was in motion.
If the answer to any question is no,
the driver was not driving defensively and is at
fault. |
